Position Summary:

Knight Foundation seeks to recruit an Investment Associate to join a new, highly collaborative in-house investment team overseeing the foundation’s multi-asset class endowment.  The Associate will support the investment team on all aspects of portfolio management, investment manager diligence, monitoring, reporting, systems implementation, and process management.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be part of a small, high-caliber in-house investment team and will gain exposure to all aspects of portfolio management and investment research across public and private asset classes. 

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Portfolio management – The Associate will support the CIO on all aspects of portfolio management, including investment tracking and reporting, and will be responsible for producing a range of analyses and presentation materials.  S/he will contribute to portfolio management decisions by monitoring and presenting to the team periodically regarding global market conditions and industry, peer, and regulatory developments.
  • Investment due diligence and monitoring – The Associate will work with senior colleagues to support research of investment opportunities across public and private asset classes, summarize findings, and draft research deliverables. In addition, the Associate will contribute to and support day-to-day diligence and monitoring processes, including reviewing manager communications, drafting meeting notes, maintaining research records, and tracking important deadlines. 
  • Investment systems and process management – The Associate will be responsible for maintaining investment systems and processes, including managing investment pipelines and maintaining investment research and monitoring templates. S/he will work with colleagues to develop and produce reports and financial modeling to monitor and guide the portfolio’s allocation, exposures, liquidity, etc.  S/he will also support compliance reviews, internal and external audits, and other reporting requirements, as needed, in coordination with colleagues.

Things we look for in a successful candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a record of academic achievement, MBA and/or CFA highly desirable but not required.
  • 3-5 years of work experience, ideally in roles with significant project leadership and analytical responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong quantitative capabilities with demonstrated ability to execute financial analysis.
  • Comfort conducting analyses in Excel, presenting complex concepts in PowerPoint, drafting reports in Word, everyday use of email/calendar; familiarity with CRM and/or research management systems a plus.
  • Strong work ethic and a curious mindset, eager to develop and critically evaluate ideas in a collaborative setting.
  • Ability to work independently with direction but minimal supervision.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and multi-task.
  • High degree of comfort working in a flexible environment.

This position is based in Arlington, Virginia. Candidates should be local or willing to relocate to the DC area.
